Nagios/MySQL problem

I am running Nagios version 1.2 compiled with:

./configure --with-mysql-extinfo --with-mysql-xdata --with-mysql-comments
--with-mysql-retention --with-mysql-downtime
--with-mysql-lib=/usr/lib/mysql

I have edited cgi.cfg and resource.cfg to have my correct information,
example:

xsddb_host=x.x.x.x
xsddb_port=3306
xsddb_database=nagios
xsddb_username=username
xsddb_password=password
xsddb_optimize_data=1
xsddb_optimize_interval=3600

When I run nagios I don't get any errors on startup or when I run ./nagios
-v nagios.cfg I don't get any errors but in the log I get:

[1076446433] Error: Could not connect to MySQL database '' on host ''
using username '' and password ''. Retention data will not be processed
or saved!
[1076446433] Error: Could not re-connect to database server on host '' for
status data. I'll keep trying every 60 seconds...

Why is it not picking up the username/password and host? I also noticed
that cgi.cfg is not listed in nagios.cfg.
