NRPE always Returns 0 (OK) from monitoring server

I am running Nagios 1.2 and NRPE 2.0 compiled from src on Redhat 2.1ES

(I set the threshhold to be critical)
When I run: /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk1 20 30 /dev/sda "root"
on the remote host and then $? I get 3 which is correct for a critical
check.

However when I run: /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H 10.1.1.30 -p
5666 -c check_disk1 -to 10 I get the correct output string saying the
state is critical but a $? returns a 0 hence showing up as "OK" status.
I have tried this with every version of nrpe I could find. WHAT am I
doing wrong?? or is this a software bug?

Thanks.
