Nagios and sendmail

[Dycus, Eric]

Is sendmail suppose to be setup as a email server to take the message from
Nagios and forward? For A windows comparason sendmail is supppose to be
setup like a Exchange server so that it can handle getting a deliving mail?
 
Am I on the right track?

As long as you have dns working on the nagios box just start sendmail
(service sendmail start) and it will find your mail server to deliver any
messages. Otherwise, in your /etc/mail/sendmail.mc file there is a smarthost
directive where you can point sendmail to relay all mail tot he desgnated
smart host. VI the file and it is documented on how to do this.

    I come from the windows world and I can't connect the dots between how
nagios sends the email and sendmail is suppose to deliver the email. can
someone point me in the right direction. I want the nagios emails sent
through my exchange server (SMTP) and then my Exchange server. I know what I
want but not sure where to start in getting that to work. I guess sendmail
is what I need to setup. I have no adeal where to start. I've modified
sendmail conf files with failed results. Do i need ip masq for this?
