Check Switch Ports without SNMP ??

Two ways I can think of:
1, easier - throw logging to syslog somewhere and use check_log to look
for port status changes. It wouldn't give you up/down stats, only
state changes, but it might fit the bill.

2. write a quick net:telnet:cisco script to log into the switch and poll
the interface. but at that point, you may as well use snmp.
