database support?

Is anyone using database support out there? I am contemplating running a
centralized database and have all of my servers report to it (15 servers)
and I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to it. I have 15 servers with
about 750 hosts on each and I want to make it easier to display web status.
Right now we are just using flat files and parsing them to display the
status of host/services.

Or does anyone have any other grand ideas?

Thanks.

Ric.
