Nagios Check_http question (the -u option)

If the web server wasn't up, how could the web page be retrieved?  A web page
retrieval implies that the server is up.  Or at least one in a cluster.

I suppose that a connect to TCP/80 would be another way to just check if there's any
service/daemon listening.  But it could be anything, not just the web server.

I think they are all the same, no matter what platform they are on.  They just need
to  comply with the HTTP spec.
