Proxy and pac

I searched the archives to no avail...

Is it possible (apart from a TCP check on that port) to check the 
availability of a pac file on a proxy?

If I just use check_http I get:

[root at netsaint etc]# ../libexec/check_http server -p 8081
Invalid HTTP response received from host on port 8081
