Authorization Issue

I am fairly new to Linux, and am bravely trying to setup Nagios. So far,
I seem to be having reasonable success, but am running into a hiccup as
far as authentication goes.

I have added the necessary sections to httpd.conf, and have added the
.htaccess file to the /usr/local/nagios/share and /usr/local/nagios/sbin
folders. I have also added usernames and passwords to the password file.

Now, when I try to access the html or CGI, it asks for authentication,
like it should. But, no matter what username/passwd I use, it does not
allow me access. It just continues to ask for the username/passwd. I
have restarted the httpd service, to no avail.

Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Jason
