Hosts stop responding

Greetings,

We've had some weird issues with our Nagios machine suddenly not being able to 
contact certain hosts. These hosts are up but we can't ping them from the 
Nagios machine until networking is restarted (and there is no pattern as to 
which host this happens to). Nagios reports these hosts as down subsequently 
sending out alerts. I'm curious if anyone has encountered this before.

We are running Nagios 1.0 on Debian 3.0.
