Unusual Error Message

I set up the nrpe client on a remote host, and configured it to check
several services.
But now, I am getting the following error message:

CHECK_NRPE: RECEIVED 0 BYTES. ARE WE ALLOWED TO CONNECT TO THE HOST?

Anyone else seen this?
