nsca/tcp server failing (looping or being flooded)

Has anyone seen this message before?

inetd[6487]: nsca/tcp server failing (looping or being flooded), service
terminated for 10 min

I only have three remote monitoring servers currently deployed and need
thirty more.  Each remote server monitors three dozen hosts.  

Should I run nsca as a standalone daemon and utilize iptables instead of
using inet?
