(Q) Defining services to use hostgroups instead of hosts

Is this possible? I tried changing the host_name config line to that of a
hostgroup (as defined in the nagios/etc/hostgroups.cfg file) and I also
tried changing the host_name category to host_group, but got no love on that
one either.
