Monitoring a specific process on the same machine nagios is running on

Is there a plugin anywhere that lets me monitor a single process on a 
unix box?  I don't want to configure snmpd or nrpe/nsca.  I just want a 
simple plugin that will do a 'ps' type of command.  I suppose I could 
write one myself, but I'd rather have one pre-done because I'm not a 
very good coder.
