Dumb upgrade question

I currently have ver 1.0 (nov 24, 2002) running.  I originally installed
this the old fashion way by compiling the binaries myself.  I just
downloaded the ver 1.1 RPM.  Can I do an RPM upgrade over a binary
install or will this "screw the pooch?"
