Monitoring one particular process

Hello.

I'm looking for a plugin that checks a particular process on a linux system. Eg.
look for a process called cron, if does not excist or is in a zombie state
return critical.
I tried check_proc so far, but couldn't get the syntax right for this purpose.

Ideas ?
