Dear Sir,

I am writing to thank you for your letter and suggest you need to make a
better case for the check_snmp plugin being at fault.

Does tcpdump/tethereal/ethereal host 10.20.30.40 and port 161 show a
reply from the host, inside the timeout period ?

Here's an example of what I mean (neg example, wrong community)

tsitc> tcpdump host so-cbr and port 161
tcpdump: listening on fxp0
20:54:11.739374 tsitc.aipo.gov.au.2613 >
so-cbr.aipo.gov.au.snmp: GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0
20:54:12.749385 tsitc.aipo.gov.au.2613 >
so-cbr.aipo.gov.au.snmp: GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0
20:54:13.759351 tsitc.aipo.gov.au.2613 >
so-cbr.aipo.gov.au.snmp: GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0
20:54:14.769373 tsitc.aipo.gov.au.2613 >
so-cbr.aipo.gov.au.snmp: GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0
20:54:15.779303 tsitc.aipo.gov.au.2613 >
so-cbr.aipo.gov.au.snmp: GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0
20:54:16.789307 tsitc.aipo.gov.au.2613 >
so-cbr.aipo.gov.au.snmp: GetRequest(28) system.sysDescr.0
^C
12264 packets received by filter
0 packets dropped by kernel

In other words, there was (in this case) no response.

Yours sincerely.

continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a
manor of thy friend's or of thine own were. Any man's death diminishes
me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know
for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee...'
