Status Map, Pop-up questions

Truth be told, that was the first thing I tried.  However, when I try to do
that, the status map automaticall recenters itself.  Then, with the map
centered, I can't see the bottom and/or right side of the popups.  

Like I said, it's driving me NUTS! :)

Damned fine suggestion, though.
