Then it appears I should try this strategy:

- set up SNMP on a Linux host (since SNMP is already installed)
- get a trivial query to work successfully
- play with the community names and the ACLs until it seems
  satisfactory that I can block unauthorized networks
- install Cricket on the Nagios server
- set up a few trivial items for Cricet to trend
- expand the above to include a few other Linux hosts
- get SNMP s/w from sunfreeware.com and install on a Solaris host
- tweak SNMP on Solaris host similar to Linux host
- wash, rinse, repeat

Let me know if this makes sense.  Also let me know if I can ping you
off-list with questions specific to this solution.

PS - Sorry for not making any quotable references to your e-mail,
Jamie.  For some reason, Exchange has decided to quarantine my
replies to you.  This happened last night, too... I tried to
figure out what the offending string was, even removed a couple
I thought were causing the problem, to no avail.  I lopped it
off for the sake of expediency.
