Nagios won't delete Hosts, Services, Users and Notifications

Hi,

i have a big problem, i deleted some hosts and notifications at the 
configuration files.
stop nagios and start nagios again,

but the users still get notifications about the services or there are still
warnings for hosts which aren't exists since weeks.

how to delete 100% the non existing hosts and services !!!!!!
