Thanks Lonny,

on Linux 2.4
in /usr/local/nagios/libexec

$ sudo -u nagios ./check_nagios -F /usr/local/nagios/var/status.log -e
10 -C /usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios

Could not locate running Nagios process!

Which seems to match the format in my cgi.cfg

nagios_check_command=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nagios
/usr/local/nagios/var/status.log  10 '/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios'

status.log is there and updating

??
