Status.cgi and CPU

Hi 

I was wondering.  I've moved from a PII, 266MHz, 156MB RAM to a P4, 2GHZ, with 512MB RAM, and status.cgi still manages to use 100% of my cpu.  Why?  Was is it doing that is so cpu intensive, and can I optimize it somehow?
