check_log gives 215: Syntax error: EOF in backquote substitution

Hi all,

Trying to use check_log plugin but it always responds with 215: Syntax 
error: EOF in backquote substitution

Tried this on several machines, all FreeBSD but some in the 3 branch while 
others in 4.

Any ideas?
