FW: [Apan-users] Could not interpret output from ping command

When you create the RRD'file you have to consider two parameters that depends on the chech_interval.
The first is the main update interval of the RRD specified with the -s option.
In my examples I have set it to 60, which means that the RRD expects a new value every 60 seconds.
The other parameter is the heartbeat-value that is the third parameter in the DS-definition. This value specifies the maximum acceptable interval betwen updates, and should be something like normal_check_interval*max_check_attempts. If an update does not occur within this interval, the value is considered 'unknown' and you will have a gap in the graph.
For example;
rrdtool create server_ping.rrd -s 60 DS:Ping:GAUGE:300:U:U RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:50400 RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:60:8760
Will create an RRD'file with base update inteval of 60 seconds and one DS with a heartbeat-value of 300 seconds.
You can read more about tis on RRD-tools web-page, http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/manual/rrdcreate.html

Fredrik,
That worked my ping problem has been fixed. I note intermittent graphing, ie.
the graph has blank spaces in it. I think the check are not being completed on
time.
I will try some different monitors.
I searched the archive you mentioned but didnt find anything. I will go back
further and look again.
Thanks for your help.
Shane
