using SNMP to fetch printer information

I am testing a plugin to be able to monitor my HP Printers, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be sending out any SNMP packets.  I sniffed the network and didn't see any responses coming from the Nagios server.  Is there a configuration option that needs to be compiled for it to work correctly?  Thanks!
