In xdata/xodtemplate.h there is a variable like MAX_INPUT_BUFFER (I know that's not it exactly but I' not in a position to look). You might need to increase that value. Compare the number of characters in your members statement to that number and see.

Subject: [Nagios-users] Number of hosts specified on members statement of hostgroup...
Greetings:
I am a new user of Nagios 1.0b6 and I have the following problem:
I cannot add more than a few hosts to the members statement in a
hostgroup definition. Nagios only seems to parse the first few hosts and
ignores the rest. Here is the hostgroup entry that generates the
problem:
define hostgroup{
hostgroup_name remote-fire-stations
alias Remote Fire Stations
contact_groups network-admins
members
STATION-03,STATION-05,STATION-07,STATION-08,STATION-09,STATION-10,STATIO
N-11,STATION-12,STATION-13,STATION-14,STATION-15,STATION-16,STATION-17,S
TATION-18,STATION-19,STATION-20,STATION-21,STATION-22,STATION-23,STATION
-24,STATION-25,STATION-26,STATION-27,STATION-28,STATION-29,STATION-30,ST
ATION-31,STATION-32
}
Due to wrapping in this email, the entry may not appear correct -
however the above members statement is one complete line with no spaces
between host entries. When I verify the configuration (nagios -v), I'm
warned that "STATION-12" thru "STATION-32" is not a member of any
hostgroups. Nagios seems to ignore the entry for "STATION-11" altogether
(doesn't show up in the hostgroup and doesn't generate an error).
Any input would be greatly appreciated as I'm about to pull my hair out
over this one! :/
