Error in recv()

A couple days ago, my monitoring was checking https (and it was working)

$USER1$/check_http -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -p 443 -s $ARG1$

And all of a suddent......I am getting a ton of  Error in recv()  
errors.

What can be the cause of this?  I can't find documentation
on an Error in recv() message.
