In large applications, in large companies, with many help desks and support groups, it can be a real problem and is for us. The "band aids" just don't work with strict authentication methods and rules. Since CGI users can only see hosts and services that they are authorized contacts for you can create a generic user that they log in as that is a contact for the logical groupings and have another that is a contact for the other hostgroups or even all hostgroups.
