Really? :)  That is how commercial most monitoring products do things.
 I'd dare to say that Nagios and it's numerous add-ons is much better
as a suite than almost any single-vendor commercial monitoring product
despite it having a distributed group of developers from around the
world who really are not on any one team per se.
